Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) is one of the most critical issues facing the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries, costing the global economy an estimated $1 trillion annually. 40-60% of pipe maintenance costs result from CUI. Properties like the cell structure, water absorption, and soluble chloride levels of the insulation material directly impact the corrosion risk. Therefore, selecting appropriate insulation systems and meticulous engineering practices, considering not only the material but also water ingress scenarios, is vital for effectively managing CUI and extending equipment lifespan.
The European Green Deal is fundamental to the EU’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Industrial insulation plays a critical role in reaching this target by improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy costs. Insulation solutions are vital for compliance with the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and transition to a circular economy for sectors like iron and steel, cement, and textiles, which account for 49% of Turkey’s exports to the EU.
